The UK has the largest network of immigration detention centres in Europe with nearly 3,400 places available in 12 locations.
Unlike prison inmates, detainees have no idea how long they will remain incarcerated or whether they will be permitted to stay in the UK upon their release. This uncertainty, along with loss of freedom and separation from family results in a great deal of emotional strain often leading to depression and other issues.
Our monthly meetings and regular personalised mailings to interested detainees are designed to provide much needed empathy and emotional support. Whether detainees are eventually deported or are given leave to stay in the UK we remain in touch with them until they are settled back into their communities.
